Vintage Peugeot Super Competition - $200 (Lower Burrell)

Up for sale is a beautiful Peugeot rode bike. Near as I can tell this is a 1988 (Biaritz?) with Super Vitus 980 tubing and Shimano 600 components. Mavic rims, Weinmann brakes, Stronglight crank. Size is 62cm seat tube.

The last year for the PX10 was in 1987. I understand this to be the first year of the Super Comp without the PX10 designation. All original except the seat. Original was leather and rotted away. New tires, tubes brake shoes and cables/covers, new handlebar wrap and toe straps. Call with any questions or for more pics. This is a bike you can ride and enjoy today. Needs nothing. Paint is white pearl and mostly original. Some rust around brazings. If you know 1980's Peugeots then you know this is a great bike.

The PX-10 would have been in it's last years by this time and this certainly would've been a quality replacement, but not with the French pride of the classic PX-10s.  This bike would've been built to compete with the other high end road racers the big names were putting out.  The Vitus 980 tubing would've been comparable to Columbus SL and it is well equipped with Shimano 600 and Stronglight (possibly drilled) cranks.  It would be nice if he gave us a better look.  The bike is somewhat let down by the floppy dog ear Simplex down tube shifters.  

You would need to ride this bike to see how you felt on the light tubing and to gauge how well everything has held up, but this bike is a downright bargain. I personally dont like full chrome forks, but if I was in the market I'd be very tempted to give a call.

Vintage Peugeot PX-10 - $400 (mt airy)

Top of the line racing bike from the 1970s. Full Reynolds 531 tubing. Simplex Drop-outs. Original owner had this professionally repainted brown and decals were replaced. Looks great! Large size. Simplex derailleurs and shifters. Stronglight crankset. Normandy luxe competition hubs with fiamme yellow label clincher rims. Mafac brakes. Needs a little work to get it riding.

Just to keep the theme going, this is not a PX-10, it's a PRN-10.  The visual cue are the Stronglight 49d cranks, instead of Stronglight 99's.  And he lets us know they're using Normandy hubs instead of the Maillard's that came on the PX-10.  A new paint job is also always a big red (brown) flag.  I think this is just a case of mistaken identity rather than a malicious sale.  But you're starting to see what I mean with these.
