Seraph Super Mizutani Ringyo

I would be interested in this bike solely based on the amazing head badge.

Merz Custom

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/bik/3892096929.html
1981 Merz Custom Bike - $1850 (Vancouver)

1981 bike Custom Made by Jim Merz. I had this built for me way back when I had knees. It is a fast touring bike, 23" Columbus tubing fully lugged frame with mostly Campy components, but Shimano custom built triple crank, Shimano shifter, Look pedals [carbon fibre] It is in beautiful condition. I put lots of miles on it but was fanatical about maintenance . I have ALL the original paperwork, including extra decals Jim provided with the bike should we ever repaint it. Does NOT need paint! I am offering this as a collectible or to ride. Handles magnificently. NEVER laid down, never took a fall on this bike. I am open to offers, my studies on the internet found these are rare, and prices vary as to condition. This is pristine. Possible trades for sporting goods, firearms, etc.

A really gorgeous early 80s custom.  Beautiful seat cluster, great color.  I'm sure this bike is amazing to ride.  Someone elses custom may be a tough sell, if you're holding $1800 for a used bike you're not that far off from getting your own modern custom.  It would be nice to see these old custom builds collected somewhere.  But if I won a gun in some kind of bizarre contest I'd absolutely love to trade him for it.

Bridgestone XO-2

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/bik/3894947828.html
1992 classic Bridgestone XO-2 - $300 (Vancouver)

48cm for a shorter rider, been kept in the garage, great bike just haven't been riding it.

Serious inquiry only

$300 obo

Bad cell phone picture but would be a really rugged town bike for someone.  Fat tires, nice fenders, great front basket.  Ofcourse the XO series is collectable for what it is, but you shouldn't forget that it's remarkable for being so functional too.  A little more expensive than a lot of classic cruisers with a triple crank and better frame materials.  I think you'd be happy with this at $300 and could maybe even get away with $250 if you show up as a buyer.

Steampunk bike

http://skagit.craigslist.org/bik/3891475974.html
Steampunk Bicycle - $300 (Oak Harbor)

Built this beauty on a brand new Huffy cruiser. All add-on's are non functional, but look awesome. Get plenty of attention every where I ride it. Perfect for the Island cruising!!! Also, if this ad is still here, THEN IT IS STILL FOR SALE. Plus, no phone number, no response.

Oh sweet Jesus...

Atala/Tullio

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/3889295620.html
Vintage ATALA Grand Sport II italian road bike frame and fork! - $125 (North hills)

This is a vintage hand built ATALA Grand Sport II Road bike that measures 52cm. I think it is a 71-72 model. Tubing is Tuppio. Would make an excellent fixie!! This ad is for the frame and forks only!! This bike was in excellent condition. $125 or best offer!

If you remember we talked about other Italian bikes that pulled off the feat of  being low range but looking high end.  Thats the case here.  This guy is hedging his bets listing this as a complete bike for $350 or just the grame at $150.  Both are pretty outrageous prices and $150 for the complete bike is probably closer to acceptable.

The Tuppio tubing is actually Tullio with the double L written in script.  This was the hi-tensile tube manufacturer that Atala used for their low range bikes.  It's an oddity that they brand it at all, most manufacturers just identify the frame material.  That gives the seller the opportunity for a little implied embellishment.  "Would make an excellent fixie!!"  You see this phrase a lot, but is it true?  Most bikes have horizontal dropouts and thats about all it takes for someone to claim this would make an excellent fixie.  I agree you'd probably want to strip the low end deraillers and the giant pie plate.  "Would make a fixie!!" doesn't have the same ring but is perhaps more appropriate.  Save the Excellent fixies for bikes with track drop outs.

Bike Is In Excellent Completely Restored Fully Renovated Condition, Shifts Perfectly, Straight And True And Should Fit Riders From About 5'10" to 6'4". Asking $550

I've never heard of Rog but it's a Yugoslovian brand that eventually became Elan, then Rog again.  Most of the info I can find was for their folding model, the Pony.

They're trying to sell this bike so I think you have to take what they say with a grain of salt.  They believe the tubes to be Columbus SL but it'd be more believable if you could find suppoting material.  You just dont think of the Eastern Block building bikes with these somewhat luxury materials.  Lots of Gippiemme on this bike, says "Made in Yugoslavia with Full Gippiemme Group" but it's sitting with a suntour rear derailler.

Just an interesting thing to see.

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bik/3862686493.html
Bottecchia Champione del mondo 1966 10 speed ladies bike - $475 (Milwaukee southside)

This is a real clean bike from 1966 Campione

See, these bikes had a sticker on them that said they were the Champions of the World in 1966.  It's not uncommon for bikes to display victories that were won on them.  And because these dont have the traditional top tube decals to identify the model thats what people think they're called.  The way you identify them is through the componant list, but hot damn this bike is worth about a quarter of what is being asked.  Cheap brake levers, cottered cranks, cheap rack, bad fenders, cheap seat, kick stand, and our old friend the micky mouse simplex shifters.

People just associate Italian models with high end racers.  It's the same reason why some American made bikes adopted Asian sounding names in the late 80s.  Consider that in Italy there were plenty of people looking for cheap entry level bikes, and companies like Bottecchia were shipping to diverse markets all over the world.  Dont get caught up in your cycling prejudices, the Italians were perfectly capable of making crap.

Pashley

http://eauclaire.craigslist.org/bik/3881143181.html
Rare Vintage Pashley - $575 (Menomonie)

Selling my prize bike. An absolutely beautiful vintage 1989 Pashley Princess for sale. Has Rod brakes that really work .Pashleys are the top of the line bikes in the UK. They are hand made. It has a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub and a Brooks like leather seat that says Prince of Wales on it. Even the bell says "Pashley". Has a generator that runs the headlight and tail light. It is so fun to ride and one of the coolest looking vintage bikes out there. Why ride what evey one else rides when you can ride a real classic that will never go down in value. The bike has not been ridden much and I have kept it around long enough. The chrome is perfect. The wheels really shine. Asking 575.00 Located in Menomonie

A really gorgeous Pashley and your chance to get in on a high end, uber twee boutique bike without having to run down a dealer or import it.  1989 may be a bit new to be calling vintage, but great stuff.  Wisconsin is coming through.

Bottecchia Campione Del Mondo

http://duluth.craigslist.org/bik/3835351615.html
Vintage Road Bike. Excellent Condition - $400 (Duluth)

Beautiful Yellow 1970's Vintage Men's BOTTECCHIA CAMPION DEL MONDO 10 SPEED RACING BICYCLE. ALL ORIGINAL DECALS AND BADGES. Excellent Original Condition although dusty from storage. New Tires and Seat.

I love this bike but unfortunately is a man's bike to big for my women's frame. It was hidden in my grandfathers basement and I was thrilled to find it and get it going again. She is beautiful and gets many compliments for her hipster beauty. May need a little tuning but overall rides well.

Look how not lined up the lettering is on the down tube.  Bottecchia's are nice looking lower end bikes that occasionally had some odd options.  For example I picked up a Bottechia Giro D'Italia frame, near the top of their line in the 70s, that was a very light Columbus tube frame with campy shifters/front derailler, a shimano long cage rear, and cheap Nervar cranks.  It didn't make a lot of sense.

I dont know that this is the actual model name, as I dont think these were clearly labeled.  The paint on this is decent but not fantastic, and as much as I'm rolling my eyes at 'her hipster beauty' the seller seems very sweet.  In the part of the ad I didn't include she comes off like we'll be friends and maybe, just in an ancillary capacity, you'll also buy this bike.  The pedals are in pretty good shape.  Those are definately simplex shifters and the long cage rear mech is probably shimano or simplex too.  No good look at the crank but it's probably Nervar.  $400 is bonkers overpriced, but it seems like it's more out of ignorance than opportunism.

Basso

http://appleton.craigslist.org/bik/3861298431.html
Vintage, Basso, Italian Road Bike (Full Shimano 105) - $250 (appleton)

Up for sale is a 50cm, 14-speed road/race bike with full Shimano 105 components. It does haze a Campagnolo aero seatpost. The frame was made in Italy of Columbus Acciaio Speciale tubing and is very light and super fast!!!!! The bike rides nice appearance is pretty good(it does have some surface rust on the fork). Super cool Green and fuscia color scheme. The bike is 50cm and is Perfect for a smaller sized rider.

Basso bikes are a family bicycle firm based in Italy founded by noted racer Marino Basso and his two brothers.  Columbus Acciaio Speciale is a generic sticker that just means "Columbus Special Steel."  These stickers were used on multiple grades of steel from the mid 80s - early 90s, so while generic usually indicates lower end thats not something you can take as granted here.  With more research you could probably identify the actual grade of tubing but at $250 for the complete bike I cant imagine any Columbus tube set that would make you balk.

The fork needs a good scrub, that would probably take care of it.  It's strange that the fork has taken so much patina but the frame and wheels look super clean.  It is Wisconsin, after all, and I'll bet road salt had a lot to do with it.  Newer steal frame, Shimano 105 all around.  Overall, the bike is a bit of a steal.  I dont even mind the color scheme.

Additional Hercules

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/3867241096.html
70's vintage Hercules bicycle 3 speed - $100 (Afton)

I have for sale is a vintage Womens Hercules bicycle. Hercules is an England based bicycle company, and this specific model is from the early 70's and is in good condition. everything works on it. asking $100.00

I'm stuck in a Hercules loop.  There's tremendous charm here.  The Pipi Longstockings cable housing sets it off.  Her Cu Matic.  I'd love to spend $100 on this bike.

Hercules Chaincase

http://semo.craigslist.org/bik/3769945480.html
Very Rare/ Vintage Hercules Bike - $300 (Jackson Mo.)

----------------I HAVE FOR SALE A VERY RARE-----HERCULES, ALL ORIGINAL BIKE------ TO INCLUDE THE LITTLE LETHER CARRING CASE WITH THE TOOL KIT------ THIS BIKE IS PERFECTLY STRAIGHT, WITH VERY MINOR SCRATCHES------ IT BELONGS IN A VERY SERIOUS COLLECTION------ COULD USE MINOR CLEAN UP, BUT I THINK YOU WOULD BE MORE THAN PRESSED TO FIND ONE EVEN CLOSE TO ITS CONDITION.------- THE PRICE IS $300----WILL CONSIDER A REASONABLE OFFER ---- OR A TRADE------IF THIS BIKE DOES NOT SELL IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I PLAN TO SEND IT TO TEXAS, OR CALIFORNIA FOR RESALE. (WHERE THE PRICE WILL BE CONSIDERABLE HIGHER. (I HAVE BEEN OFFERED A LOT MORE MONEY OUT OF CA. JUST DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO SHIP IT THERE!)

I really dont know anything about these bikes, and at the moment am not taking the time to learn.  I will say that this bike is in far, far better shape than the other Hercules I see out there, but I also suspect it's much newer.  One thing I think I remember is that Hercules is one of those brands that has been around the block a few times (bike puns, womp womp.)

Really I just love the chain case, and that's the sole reason I'm posting this.  Can you imagine if that blue wasn't just paint but was some kind of other media?  Ceramic or whatever those old signs were glazed in.  Like you couldn't ride but damn would it be pretty.

Panasonic Touring Deluxe - Bargain

http://allentown.craigslist.org/bik/3877392138.html
Vintage Panasonic 18 Speed Touring Deluxe - $100 (Roseto, PA)

Circa 1985 Panasonic Touring Deluxe bike in good condition - 18 speed - 22 inch frame - everything works. $100 or best offer

Panasonic is another brand that probably would've done well to just make up some other moniker for their bike line, because it doesn't sound particularly attractive.  They made a go of it though with a wide range of bikes to appeal to every level of rider.  This would have been their lesser touring model from the late 80s.  I think 1985 is a little early unless this guy didn't count his gears right.

But unlike most low level 'touring' models this bike is actually outfitted somewhat like a tourer.  Canti brakes, triple cranks and along range derailler.  The frame was stout Tange 1000 and you can put fenders on it.  Ofcourse it isn't a tourer you can do much touring on, but you could turn this into a great rain bike or errand runner.  And you're in at only $100.  By the end of the 80s, though, even these models were decked out with every braze on you could want and could be outfitted like an honest to goodness touring bike.

The styling of this bike is mercifully minimalistic, as some of the decals on the Panasonics are hideously 80s.  I wonder what the ride is like?  I had a Panasonic sport which was heavy as a tank and, despite being my size, I really had to crunch up to ride.  The touring model may have had a more expanded geometry and a better ride for someone like me.

Peugeot Super Competition

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/3876835748.html
Vintage Peugeot Super Competition - $200 (Lower Burrell)

Up for sale is a beautiful Peugeot rode bike. Near as I can tell this is a 1988 (Biaritz?) with Super Vitus 980 tubing and Shimano 600 components. Mavic rims, Weinmann brakes, Stronglight crank. Size is 62cm seat tube.

The last year for the PX10 was in 1987. I understand this to be the first year of the Super Comp without the PX10 designation. All original except the seat. Original was leather and rotted away. New tires, tubes brake shoes and cables/covers, new handlebar wrap and toe straps. Call with any questions or for more pics. This is a bike you can ride and enjoy today. Needs nothing. Paint is white pearl and mostly original. Some rust around brazings. If you know 1980's Peugeots then you know this is a great bike.

The PX-10 would have been in it's last years by this time and this certainly would've been a quality replacement, but not with the French pride of the classic PX-10s.  This bike would've been built to compete with the other high end road racers the big names were putting out.  The Vitus 980 tubing would've been comparable to Columbus SL and it is well equipped with Shimano 600 and Stronglight (possibly drilled) cranks.  It would be nice if he gave us a better look.  The bike is somewhat let down by the floppy dog ear Simplex down tube shifters.

You would need to ride this bike to see how you felt on the light tubing and to gauge how well everything has held up, but this bike is a downright bargain. I personally dont like full chrome forks, but if I was in the market I'd be very tempted to give a call.

Dancelli

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/3876298632.html
Dancelli of Italy

The frame measured from crank center to seat tube top is 60.5cm so expect a 33" stand over.

I have about 20 pics to better show off this bike. It is a gorgeous machine.

$750 obo I will ship.

The Colnago Clover is in honor of Dancelli.

This is a nice Columbus tube frame that was never sold in the USA. The bikeshop that sold this bike is in Germany.

Dancelli was a professional racer, team mate of Eddy Merckx, whose family crest had a clover on it.  When Dancelli won his most famous victory on a Colnago built bike, Colnago adopted the clover as its' emblem.  This is a really great looking bike with solid, clean lugs and nice decals.  The Shimano Golden Arrow deraillers and Gieppeme cranks add a lot to the style and allure.

While this is certainly a rare bike for America it was a popular marquee in Germany.  The frames may have been built by Colnago for a time but were most likely built by Billato, a large but quality building firm that did contracted work.  I've read it would be Columbus SL tubes but you'd have to see more of his pictures to tell.  Probably worth what he's asking for the overall quality and curb appeal.

St. Vitus pt. II

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/3871526928.html
58cm Vitus 979 alloy Frameset - $275 (Hampton Township)

I have this bike in my basement that deserves to be brought back to life. I am now selling it as a frame/fork.

@@@@@Please @@@@@ Include a phone number since I am getting spam attacked )7:

campagnolo

Remember this guy?  The oddly lugged Vitus 979 tubing.  The complete bike in New Orleans was selling at $600, it looks like he's just selling the frame.  I cant imagine buying this bike to build up as an every day rider.  I'd certainly resent having to restore it right after you stripped it.  He throws campy in there for the search terms, but once you strip it it isn't campy anymore.

This frame looks like it would be hell to keep shiny, too.  It just seems to develop a dull sheen, and any imperfection is really going to show.

Viscount Aerospace G.P. rip off

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/3861859732.html
Viscount Aerospace G.P. Bicycle - $375 (Pittsburgh)

For sale is one clean and complete 1970's Viscount Aerospace G.P. road bicycle built by Trusty in England. Lightweight (for its time) steel frame with chromed forks. Brand new tires, saddle, brakes, and leather handlebar wraps purchased from Thick Bikes in the South Side. All other parts are original - Bike is parts complete and ready to ride. When purchased, the bike still had the original tires and brake pads, if that gives you any idea of how many miles it has on it.

Lugged steel frame construction, made in England.
Viscount was part of the Lambert Cycles conglomerate which also included Viking bicycles.
Unique to these bikes were the Lambert style crank as well as brand oriented quick release skewers and brake calipers.

Specifications:
57cm
SR Laprade Fluted Seatpost
Ritchey Force Stem (130mm)
Tange Headset
Dia-Compe Brake Levers
GB 77 Brake Calipers
Shimano Shifters
Shimano Thunderbird GTO Front Derailleur
Lambert Crankset
27x1 1/4
5 speed Freewheel

For starters, go read what Sheldon Brown has to say:  http://sheldonbrown.com/lambert.html

But basically these were inexpensive bikes that made some unique design choices, that more or less didn't work out.  The biggest issue being the alloy fork, which saved weight, was also prone to failing.  But Sheldon also brings up a tendency for the down tubes and bottom bracket to crack.  This seller doesn't know what he has, because you wouldn't talk up the originality if you knew about the issues with these bikes.  He also says the bike is lugged steel when clearly in the picture you can see it isn't.  Again, Sheldon tells us filet brazed.  Even without the safety issues of riding these bikes this bike is wildly overpriced based on the components.  Hopefully no one falls for it.

Eddy would not ride

http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/bik/3855854755.html
Eddy Merckx-Classic circa 1986 - $1400 (Salt Lake City)

This steel classic is 56cm and fits me like a glove (I am 5' 8.5" tall and weigh 160lb). Eddy is currently flying the original Merckx orange color and decals. Currently with full fenders and flap. The campy Chorus gruppo (53/42, 10cog cassette) is going great and the bike rides like we all know steel bikes ride plus some-- because it is steel and because I put a carbon fork on it. I still have the original fork, but it is blue. The original frame color was blue and was just like the Panasonic road team's that raced the TDF that year. I also have the original seat post but have saved some weight with a Thomson post in place now, along with a new Thomson stem, Salsa bars, Fizik saddle. The newer Mavic Axsium clinchers are also a great ride with the steel. The frame has a few small paint chips, with the worst of them visible on the rear stay in one of the pictures.
Serious classic riders please

If you were going to buy this bike you would absolutely want to see the fork.  It would give you more clues as to which Merckx this really was, specifically how the fork crown was pantographed.  I love Molteni orange but a repaint on a bike is difficult, especially when it isn't using any of its' original componants.  For example this could be a Merckx Falcon 10, the bike that Eddy endorsed made by Falcon cycles in England.  I've read Merckx designed all of the bikes that carried his name, so for that fact it would be a cut above, but it certainly wasn't the columbus tubed, Masi collaborated models he went on to make.
Even if the tubing on this is legit the price is pretty prohibitive to me.  I dont know why you'd mix steel and a carbon fork.  You either want a steel bike or a carbon bike.  And if you do rescue Eddy you have to pick up a headset and stem while you're at it.  New paint and it's already chipping.  Eh, it's kindof an irritating bike.
